The Cry of a Deserted Mother…

This poem was written to fit in the African context.Note that it may arouse negative attitude in readers from other regions of the world especially those from Europe and America..But the poem talks about the truth…Europe and America have been “stealing”  from Africa since time immemorial….please don’t get hard feelings about it, i just did my duty as a poet.

The Cry of a Deserted Mother…

deserted

ooh young sons of Africa!

why have you neglected her

and rejected her wisdom

to follow the wisdom of foreigners?

ooh young sons of Africa!

why have you neglected her

and rejected her ancient gods

to follow the gods of foreigners?

ooh young sons of Africa!

why have you neglected her?

your mum is wealthy

Africa has oil

Africa has gold

Africa has diamond

that benefit foreigners

while you rot in poverty

and incur un-payable debts

ooh young sons of Africa!

look back at your mum

and hear what she says to you

“call and to me my hungry sons

and i shall give you food

call and to me my suffering sons

and i shall set you free

call and to me my poor sons

and i shall give you wealth

yes you neglected me ,me and my gods

come back to me my lost sons

i will make you my heirs

my oil shall be your oil

my gold shall be your gold

and my diamonds shall be your diamonds

ooh young sons of Africa!”

  1. This is a magnificent poem which speaks the truth! I feel that many of us can look at our own countries and think the same in some regards. In current times, I wish that people from my own country would act with the kindness and dignity of others from around the world!

I could not leave my comment on WordPress, so please copy and paste it there if you like.

Take care my friend! Great work, as always!
